I’ve had this idea for a book and it’s a simple idea.
While this picture book can be read to children (and I hope that they will enjoy it!), it’s really for the parent. It’s about growth and understanding, and ultimately, it’s about giving yourself space and allowing yourself to breathe and grow. It’s a book about identifying what you can control in life, and what you can’t, and being able to let go.
I don’t want to reveal too much of the story, but as I work on it in the upcoming weeks, I will certainly be posting pictures from the book, whether its quotes or illustrations.
This is going to be the first time I will work with Greg (my husband) as the editor. Greg’s firm grasp of the English language is undeniable, but I haven’t figured out if we’re creatively a match yet (even if matrimonially, we are!).
I’ve decided to take it all for a test drive. Using this piece I aim to learn a bit about:
- How to work Amazon’s KDP for publishing a children’s picture book
- How to write a short picture book story
- See if Greg and I can really work together, or if we would just argue all the way through, hah!
- Test my illustration skills
- Test my time management skills
- Learn a thing or two about self marketing
- Learn how to obtain an ISBN and manage a self-published piece of work
It’s a new year, so a new beginning. My current goal is to have this piece ready to publish by April 2022.
